I call this a Rose Royale – think a take on a Kir Royale, which is one of my favorite drinks, but with a splash of rose water added. It gives the classic champagne (or Prosecco, or Cava, let’s be honest) cocktail a subtle flavor note that elevates this classic French cocktail.
I typically make this cocktail with champagne, but to make it half-proof you can also sub in your favorite non-abv sparkling wines. Here are a few of my favorites, and they make a perfect addition to this Rose Royale drink:
This is the perfect New Year’s Eve drink because you can have two and not get ahead of yourself! Plus, they’re so fun and festive and a great option to serve if you’re hosting. Since they’re simple to make, people can swap the champagne with a non-abv sparkling wine, and vice versa.
And that’s everything for this Rose Royale Cocktail!
If you make it, please tag me on Pinterest or Instagram so I can see! It’s my favorite thing to scroll through stories and see what you all are making.
And of course feel free to leave any questions, comments or reviews! This is the best place to reach me, and I’d love to hear from you <3

Hi Justine,
Your thoughtful and sensitive exploration of your relationship with alcohol, woven seamlessly into your amazing cocktail series, is truly appreciated!
In one of your past newsletters, you recommended a book for women who love food and are into food, and I’m eager to make it my first read of the year. However, I can’t seem to recall the name. Could you kindly remind me of the title? I value your recommendations and can’t wait to dive into the suggested read.
Thanks and hope you have a year filled with peace and great food ahead.

Hi Vaishnavi! The book is titled “Our Lady of Perpetual Hunger,” I believe. That’s a memoir. However if you are looking for the cookbooks I recommended in my gift guide, those are Maydan, Sofreh, and Snacking Bakes!
