If you haven’t frozen your citrus yet, let these frozen citrus yogurt bark be your first time trying it! It is one of my favorite winter snacks, and now that winter citrus season is here, it just gives you another excuse to use up all those gorgeous blood oranges.
I used a few spices in this mix, but you can also let the citrus shine on its own, or you can even riff on it and get creative! That’s one of my favorite things about this recipe. It’s like a butter board…except absolutely not (I started the butter board trend btw, so I’m allowed to say that 😉
This snack is quick, easy and wholesome, and it can be whipped up in minutes. I eat it like breakfast, dessert or anything in between.

Ingredients for this frozen citrus yogurt bark
The ingredients for this citrus yogurt bark are highly swappable, but it’s good to have a good baseline for this super easy recipe. Here is everything you’ll need:
- 1 small cara cara orange
- 1 small blood orange
- 1/2 grapefruit
- 1/8 tsp each of ground cardamom, anise & clove
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 & 1/2 scoops vanilla protein powder, about 60 grams, I like using Garden of Life brand
- 1/3 cup cool water, plus more as needed
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 cup greek yogurt, skyr or labneh, plus more as needed
How to make this frozen citrus bark
We do love an easy recipe around here, and this bark is no exception. All you need to do is thinly slice your citrus, removing the skins so that you have hexagon shaped pieces.
Then toast your spices on a dry pan and add them into a large bowl with the protein powder and water. (You can also totally skip the toasting step) Stir to combine into a thick paste. The amount of water needed will vary based on your preferred protein, so add more as needed! After that, mix together the honey and yogurt.
On a parchment lined baking sheet, dollop alternating scoops of the protein powder and yogurt. Then swirl together with a knife until you have a surface that is about 1/2 cm thick. Spread the citrus on top of the yogurt. It can overlap in places, but the design is up to you!
And to finish, freeze for 6-12 hours, then slice into 12 even pieces and eat whenever!
How to store frozen yogurt bark
The best way to store this frozen citrus yogurt bark is of course, in the freezer. This is because this recipe is best eaten straight out of the freezer so it still has it’s fro-yo-like snap. This recipe will last in the freezer for up to 6 months. To save space, I recommend slicing the bark up into pieces, and then storing in a ziploc bag.

Hey Justine! These look so good. Would this work if I didn’t have protein powder on hand? Wasn’t sure if it would make the bark too flimsy
Justine says
Hi! The yogurt tends to melt really quickly, which is why I also have the protein swirl in there. But if you’re down to eat fast, just yogurt will work out fine!
