Everything & Even More Than the Bagel Seasoning

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe
Finished Everything & Even More Than the Bagel

This is the kind of everything bagel seasoning that works for YOU. Ok, I know that sounds weird since it is just a seasoning, but I’ve always wondered why we pile this seed blend on top of everything (or at least….so many things) and we never think to add more seeds to the mix?

This idea hit me when I saw some influencer make a “power seed sprinkle” (lol) to put on her meals throughout the week. And in my head, I was like, “My only power seed sprinkle is everything but the bagel seasoning, tbh.” But then I realized that if I added some of my favorite seeds into the mix, maybe I could add in a few extra benefits to my everything but the bagel seasoning. Here’s how I make my favorite mix, and I hope it inspires some ideas for you!

Finished Everything & Even More Than the Bagel Seasoning

Everything but the bagel seasoning is typically minced garlic, minced onion, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, salt and occasionally red pepper flakes. It really is a truly simple mix! But in this recipe, I opted to add hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and a little bit of dried parsley to liven everything up. Here are the exact quantities that I ended up using:

  • 3 tablespoons dried minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 3 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoons toasted white sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 3 tablespoons sunflower seeds
  • 3 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons hemp seeds
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley optional
  • 2 tablespoons large flake salt – see recipe notes

It seems like a lot, but a lot will get you a long way with this recipe!

Equipment

  • 1 quart sized jar

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons dried minced garlic
  • 3 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • 3 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoons toasted white sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 3 tablespoons sunflower seeds
  • 3 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
  • 2 tablespoons hemp seeds
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley optional
  • 2 tablespoons large flake salt see recipe notes

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients except for the salt to a baking sheet. Toss together until everything is evenly combined.
  • From here, you can either toast the seeds at 300°F for 10 minutes, or leave them as-is for a longer shelf life.
  • Sprinkle the salt evenly over the mixture and pour into a jar or tupperware container.
  • Store in a cool dark place for up to 1 month. Use often!

Notes

***Large flake salt is integral here. Smaller flaked salt, such as kosher salt or sea salt, will fall to the bottom of the seed mix, leaving you with a huge surplus of salt at the bottom and not enough in the rest of the mixture. I recommend going for a large flakey salt brand like Maldon if you are going to use flakey salt in this recipe.

Everything we cooked for a Thanksgiving for five 🤎 Everything we cooked for a Thanksgiving for five 🤎 (and an aligot cheese pull competition, it was a whole thing)

In all seriousness, Thanksgiving is a time where it’s hard for me not to be jealous. Jealous of people who have big families to go home to and large, loud, overflowing Thanksgivings. Without getting *too* into it, this holiday is an easy time to feel alone. Over the past five years it has gone from my least favorite holiday to my favorite, and as cliche as it sounds, I give nearly all the credit to food. It is true what they say, if you cook it, they will come, and creating a warm, easy, inviting Thanksgiving (no matter how big or small the group) is now my favorite thing about the last Thursday of every November.

All that to say, if you have a big family, be super grateful for them. And if you have a small/chosen family, be very thankful for them, too. Ily 💚

Sweet potatoes with smoky sesame glaze (over labne Sweet potatoes with smoky sesame glaze (over labneh), another 25-minute recipe for procrastinators, and not just because it’s delicious. This was part of the menu I developed for @mattressfirm’s sleep-friendly Friend(zzz)giving menu, and it was a sleeper hit (truly no pun intended).

Developing this menu was fun, interesting, and really showed that sleep isn’t just about when you go to bed, but about what you eat, how you prep, and of course, what you sleep on.

If you want to oomph that sleep up even more, Mattress Firm is having their Once-A-Year Sale & Clearance where you can get up to 60% off plus a free adjustable base with select mattresses. #sleepeasy #MattressFirmPartner [ad]
