Burrata with Hot Honey on Ciabatta

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Two words. Eight letters. I’m totally yours.

Hot. Honey.

I swear, once you find the right way to make hot honey to your liking, it changes the game. Hot honey can go on anything (and everything): smoothie bowls, pizza, cake, sandwiches, BRUNCH. It’s like the mix of sweet and spicy was made for this world, and I’m here for it.

So here is how to make hot honey that is quick, easy, and requires zero cooking. Plus I’ve also included my favorite recipe to use it on – burrata toast! Because really, I couldn’t just leave you with a hot honey recipe, that would feel wrong. I had to give you the whole thing 😉

Now this recipe includes a jammy poached egg, creamy burrata and crispy ciabatta grilled on a cast iron stove, but if some of those things aren’t your ~jam~ totally feel free to tweak? Prefer your brunch eggs over easy? Go for it. Want to switch out the burrata for a creamy ricotta? Be my guest! And if you want to make your hot honey LESS SPICY? (gasp) that is fine, I will allow it. That’s the best part about this quick and simple brunch recipe. It’s delicious, but you can really make it your own.

Prep Time:5 minutes mins
Cook Time:10 minutes mins
Course: Breakfast, Main Course
Cuisine: American
Keyword: breakfast, brunch, burrata, eggs, hot honey
Servings: 2 people

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 oz. burrata about 1 small ball
  • 2 rolls fresh ciabatta
  • 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
  • 2 tsp sambal oelek chili paste
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

For the toast

  • Turn your skillet on high heat. Cut the ciabatta rolls in half lengthwise and slather with either butter or olive oil.
  • Toast the rolls (face side down) on the skillet for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Flip and toast for another 30 seconds to 1 minute
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil and poach to eggs, do this by dropping the eggs into the boiling water, swirl the water once with a spoon and let the eggs cook for about 4 minutes. Remove from the water and set aside in a bowl with about 1 tbsp of water in it to help them rest.

For the hot honey

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, sambal oelek and red pepper flakes – and boom that's the hot honey!

To assemble

  • Top your toasted bread with burrata on one side and the egg on the other, embrace the runny yolk! (if you're into that) Salt & pepper to taste.
  • Drizzle each portion generously with hot honey and serve warm!

The best chickpeas I’ve ever made ✨ These are The best chickpeas I’ve ever made ✨

These are a recipe of just herbs, soffritto, a few palms of salt and a lot of olive oil, but broth comes out richer than any brothy bean I’ve ever made, and I still can’t figure out the secret of it other than time (maybe it’s the parm rind I added WHO KNOWS)

This recipe is adapted from Gianinna’s instructions at @tenutacavasecca and I’ll have my written version on my site later tonight!

Happy 1st Birthday “Justine Cooks” 🥹😭 T Happy 1st Birthday “Justine Cooks” 🥹😭

The cookbook that taught me how to write a da*m good recipe. The book that taught me hard things are worth it. The book that taught me food is made of so much more than a recipe, it’s made of the people who cook it.

It’s been a joy to watch you all use, transform, and love this book over the past year. It has given me a sense of purpose that I’ve never had before, and know how much I mean it when I say I’m eternally grateful.

Thank you to @food52 and @foodbaby.bklyn for hosting me a banger of a birthday party. Thank you to @vitalfarms for supporting the fun (and being the best). Thank you to everyone who came and to everyone who cooks from my book. It means more to me than you know.

Can’t wait to see what this book is like when she’s a two year old, I’ve heard the toddler years are horrible.

Photo cred! @kelseycherry
Small (big??) update, we’re doing it again!

I’m hosting a trip next year with @viarosaitaly, this time to Puglia, and the link for the itinerary and the booking is in my bio.

This past week I had the pleasure (honestly, joy) of traveling with 12 women to Ortigia, Sicily. We covered a lot of ground, but it was the connection and inspiration I felt while surrounded with such like-minded women that was the best part. (If you are reading this girls, ily, and thank you for letting me talk so much about White Lotus).

Thank you @eminchilli and @viarosaitaly for making our seven nights incredible. Can’t wait for next year ✨

Hot Honey Carrot Tart with Rosemary Brown Butter R Hot Honey Carrot Tart with Rosemary Brown Butter Ricotta 😍 It sounds like a lot - but really you only need to brown the butter and the rest of the assembly is easy because of @delmonte’s Hot Honey Carrots #sponsored

The carrots are delicious but they also make this recipe so convenient. You need two cans to cover the tart, and their flavor is perfectly savory-sweet to hold up to the brown butter ricotta. If you need a last minute holiday dish or something to bring to a Friendsgiving, I love this recipe for it 💚

Full recipe is on their site!
