Baked Salmon & Avocado Salad

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe
Baked Salmon & Avocado Salad

My current go-to bagel order is a baked salmon salad on an everything bagel – sounds weird, but it’s delicious. But when I’m at home, I’m not the biggest mayo fan, so I was looking to make a version of this addicting baked salmon salad spread without having to use any of the mayo. Enter scene: Baked Salmon & Avocado Salad.

It’s creamy, rich, spicy and just filled with everything I love about a good baked salmon salad spread. You can find out more here on how I make my favorite bagel order.

What is baked salmon salad?

Originally, baked salmon salad is very similar to tuna salad, but you can find it more commonly as a bagel spread. A baked salmon salad recipe traditionally has mayo, dill weed, celery, old bay seasoning and garlic powder.

A bunch of things that are not my favorite.

So that’s the beauty of making a salmon salad spread that I could call my own. I wanted it to be healthy, filling, delicious and taste how I wanted it to taste. And that’s why we use avocado in this version!

Ingredients you will need for this salmon salad recipe

Let’s be honest, it’s the weekend and you don’t want to be cooking breakfast, but just merely *assembling* breakfast. Here are all the ingredients (and leftovers lol) that I recommend you use when making this recipe:

  • 4 ounces leftover salmon, must be cooked
  • 1/4 large avocado, ripe
  • 1/2 small shallot, diced
  • 1/4 cup flat-leaf parsley, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sambal oelek, or your hot sauce of choice
  • Zest from 1/2 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large bagel, toasted and sliced in half
halved avocado and baked salmon

How to make this baked salmon salad spread with avocado

It’s breakfast, so when we’re making this salmon salad with avocado, let’s keep things simple. Use leftovers to your advantage and make sure that everything is super low maintenance. Here are my quick-and-dirty instructions for your weekend brunch:

  1. Use a large flat surface, like a cutting board, and add the salmon, avocado, shallot, parsley, mustard, sambal and lemon zest.
  2. Use a fork to mash all the ingredients together until you get the consistency of a baked salmon salad spread. Think of it as well combined and creamy, but still slightly chunky.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste and mash again.
  4. Toast your bagel and top with the salmon spread.
  5. Serve whenever!

Tinned Fish potatoes with @patagoniaprovisions, my Tinned Fish potatoes with @patagoniaprovisions, my favorite mussels out there and the ones we could eat daily. And yes, Patagonia makes food! It’s the first question I get asked when I post with them, but they make my favorite tinned fish out there! The mackerel is addictive and the mussels help to restore ocean ecosystems (and are delicious, too!). Definitely worth being your tinned fish of choice 💚

TAJIN FETA you heard me right!! 5-second feta dres TAJIN FETA you heard me right!! 5-second feta dressing is my everything, and tajín feta by @athenosfeta is also my new everything. #AthenosPartner

This roasty, charred and spicy cauliflower cooks down with jammy, salty tomatoes, the flavors were inspired by Athenos’ new Tajín feta crumbles (!!!) which are the base of this simple dressing that’s packed with flavor.

I’ve put these tangy, zippy feta crumbles in mini quesadillas, on avocado toast, in salads, and I think it’s their best invention yet. #FoodNeedsFeta and you can find this genius feta innovation at your grocery store! #AthenosPartner
